It’s Simple! Lavender Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a basic syrup made from equal parts sugar and water, heated until the sugar dissolves completely into the water, creating a clear, sweet liquid. It’s a staple in cocktail making and is used to sweeten a wide variety of drinks because it blends more easily into cold beverages than granulated sugar does. While the classic simple syrup is just sugar and water, it can be infused with various flavors such as herbs, spices, or fruit to add extra dimensions to drinks.

Lavender simple syrup, for example, is made by adding lavender flowers during the cooking process, giving the syrup a floral note that can enhance cocktails, teas, lemonades, and more. We use our Lavender Smoke Dust to make the lavender simple syrup and it is a breeze to make! Our smoke dust is culinary-grade lavender flowers!

Here is how to make your own Lavender Simple Syrup for the Lavender Limeade:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon Lavender Smoke Dust

In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is fully dissolved (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in dried lavender buds. Let steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a sealable container once cooled. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

This garnishing technique not only adds a visually appealing touch but also contributes a fresh aroma and a hint of citrus flavor to the drink, especially the Lavender Limeade!

When you take a sip, the aroma from the citrus float enhances the overall drinking experience by engaging the sense of smell, which is closely linked to taste. Additionally, the oils from the citrus peel can subtly infuse the cocktail with a light citrusy essence, depending on the type of citrus used and how it’s prepared.

Get ready to brighten up your spring with a delightful lavender limeade that’s a guaranteed cure for the pollen blues! With just two key ingredients – zesty limeade and sweet lavender simple syrup – it’s a breeze to make a big pitcher for a party or just a few.

To create a big batch of your drink with the ratio of 3 parts limeade to 1 part lavender simple syrup, you’ll first decide how much total volume you want and then scale up the ingredients accordingly. For simplicity, let’s assume you want to make enough for a party and aim for a total volume of 1 gallon (128 ounces).

For a pitcher, let’s assume you’re aiming for a volume of about 64 ounces (which is a common pitcher size, equal to half a gallon). To maintain the 3:1 ratio of limeade to lavender simple syrup, you’ll follow a similar process as for the larger batch but adjusted for the pitcher’s size.

Here’s how to scale the recipe to fit a 64-ounce pitcher:

  1. Calculate the total parts in the drink: Since the ratio is 3 parts limeade to 1 part lavender simple syrup, that’s 4 parts total.
  2. Determine the volume of one part: Divide the total volume of the pitcher by the total parts. For a 64-ounce pitcher divided by 4 parts, that equals 16 ounces per part.

Mocktail/Cocktail OPTION

  • 3 oz limemade we used Simply Limeade
  • 1 oz Lavender Simple Syrup
  • 1.5 oz Vodka or Gin (OPTIONAL!)

Garnish & Smoke

  • 1 lime slice
  • 1 large ice cube to float lime slice on top
  • 1 sprinkle of lavender flowers to lightly toast on top of lime slice

Mocktail/Cocktail

  • Choose a glass that a large square ice cube will reach the top of the glass inside.
  • Mix limeade and lavender simple syrup in the glass with ice. stir. If you are adding a spirit, add this in at this time.

Garnish & Smoke

  • Place smoker on top and smoke.
  • Remove smoker and float lime slice on ice cube and sprinkle/lightly toast lavender flowers.
